The Palace of Fontainebleau

Only one hour by car from Paris, there is The Palace of Fontainebleau, surrounded by forest.

Founded by the king Francis I, the castle did not have any defensive role, but it was richly decorated by Italian painters Rosso and Primaticcio in the Renaissance style. Many French Kings lived here - from Louis VII to Napoléon III. Napoleon Bonaparte called the castle “True house of centuries”. This place became an integral part of French history.
